β€œ...when I run, I feel His pleasure.” Eric Liddell

Deborah Placko

I paint because I feel Gods pleasure. A quietness fills me, sound fades, time dissolves and all is still. All is well. These are precious times indeed.

Painting from direct observation is what I enjoy the most. At this point my focus is on trees, sky and water. I work at marshes, parks, lakes, rivers and shores of southern New Jersey along with short times of study in Maine. Looking at my focus I immerse myself in one part and get to know that tiny bit of creation in a real way through long observation, drawing and painting. In this I come to understand more fully the beauty of God’s creation.

Bio

I was born and raised in a small town in southern New Jersey. I remember in Miss Bell’s 6th grade class and middle school watching a boy draw beautifully, and I wanted that. Not remembering that feeling again until much later I enrolled in a local art class and became a painting and drawing major at the college in the town next door. From there my journey continued.
I think a person’s life is full of seasons. Times of soaking or producing, times of nurturing and supporting or being nurtured and supported, times of waiting and times of moving forward. I’ve lived through many of these times, rich and full, quiet and empty, waiting and moving. Each season feeding the others in unseen ways. Art has been woven in and out of these times by God’s love. This is a constant. My response is to strive to step outside of myself and love back. I do this in part by creating art.
